United Way of Southwest Wyoming’s Community Diaper Banks distributed 97,261 diapers to families in diaper need in 2023. This is an 34.25% increase in their diaper distribution from the previous year. One in two families struggle to afford diapers every month now that the price of diapers has increased roughly 32% in the last year.
In support of United Way of Southwest Wyoming’s annual Helping Hands Day, 65 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and completed projects for Sweetwater County nonprofits and senior citizens during August and September.
Together, nine teams, volunteered 361 service hours for their community. The YWCA of Sweetwater County and Boys & Girls Club of Sweetwater County hosted teams, while the others completed projects at the homes of senior citizens. The total value of volunteer time and supplies is $15,328.44 for these projects.
United Way of Southwest Wyoming is promoting National Diaper Need Awareness Week, September 24th through October 2nd, with a community wide diaper drive. Collected diapers will be distributed through United Way of Southwest Wyoming’s community diaper banks.
Qualifying emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in Southwest Wyoming are urged to apply for federal funds awarded to United Way of Southwest Wyoming through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.
United Way of Southwest Wyoming is recruiting volunteers for their annual Helping Hands Day event. Helping Hands Day is scheduled for August 27, 2022, but projects can be completed at any time.
